For some, when the leaves begin changing, a pocket of energy bursts leading to all sorts of hidden motivation. With the new season, comes a new beginning – a subtle reminder it’s time to quit oneself, and start with a new day. #
Some find motivation to clean out the closet and replace the tanks and flops with the cashmere and suede boots; motivation to check the antifreeze; or maybe even motivation to head to the gym so you can squeeze into the skinny jeans. #
Rev. Gerry Creedon, of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, reflected upon the changing season today by reading ‘October,’ by Robert Frost. #
Quiting Oneself #
For me, it isn’t Robert Frost that reminds me it’s time to start anew. It’s my Egyptian cotton down comforter. #
Today, for the first time in months, I am removing the blanket that has shielded me, night after night, from spring to summer and summer to fall. The paisley blanket, colored with a bouquet of warm colors, will be replaced by my pure white weightless down comforter. #
“If we are to live a bit more simply, others can simply live,” Creedon said today in mass. #
I hope I can live up to those words in the coming months, but first I have to replace my loyalty to the sand, with a foundation of devotion to what’s rock solid. #
